Vision

Leading innovations in glass science and technology by integrating fundamental research with state-of-the-art experimental and computational methods to solve the newest and most pressing challenges for the glass industry.

Mission

Our mission is to advance glass technologies through leveraging new tools and new approaches.  The knowledge outcomes and technological advancements that result will be developed in close collaboration with industry partners, ensuring a seamless transition from laboratory innovations to real-world industrial applications.

History

Between 1996 and 2006, the previous version of the CGR, an NSF-supported Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) led groundbreaking initiatives that significantly advanced the glass industry. Hosted by Alfred University (AU), the University of Missouri at Rolla – now Missouri S&T, and Penn State University (PSU), this center initiated lasting partnerships with key U.S. glass industry leaders and made substantial contributions to the field of glass science and technology.  Its research led to innovations spanning manufacturing, defense, biomedicine, and basic science. The center's legacy continues to shape the glass industry today.
