Details of the Competition
Graduate Students will pitch their research in 2 minutes or less!
Sponsored by PPG Industries, the Millennium Café Pitch Competition is an opportunity to pitch your research in TWO minutes or less using no more than four 8.5” x 11” printed slides. Graduate students will briefly convey their research to a curious and technically diverse audience in hopes of taking home CASH PRIZES and developing new COLLABORATIONS.
Big Picture - Did the presenter tell you why the research is important?
Structure & Clarity - Did the presenter create the message in a logical and well-supported fashion?
Passion - Was the pitch presented with energy, enthusiasm, eye contact, good body language, etc.?
Pace - Did the presenter stay within the allotted time?
Winners of this Competition
Winners will be highlighted at the 2019 Materials Day annual event with the opportunity to pitch their research during Awards Ceremony. See 2018 Pitch Competition Winners' Presentations.
Two free trainings are available to everyone
Trainings will be held in the MSC 3rd floor Commons. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis! Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

The amount of information that surrounds everybody, every day, is the highest it has ever been in the world’s history. Skilled scientists and engineers must be equipped with not only technical expertise, but also with communication skills that can get others interested in their areas of research. This could mean the difference between success or failure in launching a new business, gaining a grant, or garnering support from the community at large regarding why your work matters.

"Telling Your Story"

Everything and everyone has a story, and learning how to communicate stories can help you deliver information to anyone. In this two hour session, you will not only learn how to tell a story, you will experience how storytelling turns information into an experience.
