Access Rates
While technically access rates, or connection speeds, are still climbing, there had been a plateau among the lowspeed users switching to higher bandwidths. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project 2006, the adoption of high-speed internet grew twice as fast in 2006 as it did the previous year.
Project survey results indicated:
- 67% of American internet users have access to high-speed Internet connections either at home or on the job.
- 29% of American internet users have dial-up access only.
- Only 10% of rural Americans go online from home with high-speed connections, about one-third the rate for nonrural Americans.
