Poster Printing Information

The MRI IT team provides presentation quality color poster printing. Once your poster file is ready, it may be submitted to Paul Carlisle Kletchka for printing. Please read the details below BEFORE submitting a poster.

Details:

TIME -- "How long will it take to print my poster?"

The turnaround time for printing a poster is 3 business days (Monday through Friday) from the time the electronic file was received. So, if you need a poster on a Monday morning, you need to get the file to Paul Carlisle Kletchka by the preceding Wednesday morning, since Saturday and Sunday are not business days.

SENDING THE FILE -- "How do I transfer my poster file?"

Please send your files to Paul through the MRI Dropbox (https://www.mri.psu.edu/dropbox). Files of up to 50MB may be sent through this service, and we ask that you use it instead of e-mailing your poster as an attachment.

SIZE -- "How large can I make my poster?"

Our standard printing size is 3 feet wide by 4 feet long (that's 36 x 48 inches). If you are making a poster that will be hung on MRI's display boards, you should create a poster that is no more than 36 x 46 inches, as that will ensure your poster doesn't hang over the edges of the display board. If you need to make a poster of a different size, please talk to Paul about it. He can tell you if we will be able to meet your needs, how to set up your file, and how much your custom sized poster will cost.

COST -- "How much will it cost to print my poster?"

We charge $7 per linear foot of the 36-inch paper that is used to print your poster. That means the "standard size" poster (36 x 46 inches) will cost $28. ALL POSTER PRINTING MUST BE CHARGED TO A UNIVERSITY BUDGET AND FUND. We cannot accept cash, checks, or credit cards for printing your poster. When you submit your poster for printing, include a budget number, a fund number, and if necessary, a cost center code to which the printing should be charged. YOUR POSTER WILL NOT BE PRINTED WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION.

FILE FORMAT -- "What shoud I save my poster as?"

We use a PC running Windows XP with Office 2007 and Adobe Creative Suite 3 to print posters. We can reliably print posters from PDF, PPT, PPTX, TIF, JPG, and PSD files. The best format for you to use when submitting a poster is PDF with fonts embedded -- but if you elect to convert your original file to PDF, please make sure that the file you send is formatted to be the same dimensions as the printed poster. (If your PDF is sized at 8.5 x 11 inches, it will not yield a quality poster print.) This also holds true for TIF, JPG, and PSD files. PowerPoint files generally yield good posters, but if you use unusual fonts or create the file with a Mac version of Office, there are likely to be problems with font substitutions. If you are unsure about file formats and settings, please talk to Paul Kletchka well in advance of your deadline so we can avoid last-minute emergencies/disasters.
