Polarization & Strain Lab

Description

An automated system is available to simultaneously measure the polarization and strain of materials induced by an electric field. Sample size is usually less then 13 mm in diameter and 25 mm long. Power supplies up to 10kV can be used as long as the sample is immersed in insulating fluid to prevent edge breakdown.

The polarization measurement has a frequency range of 1 mHz to 1 kHz and a charge range of ~10pc to 10,000µc.

The strain is an instantaneous-type1 strain measurement intended for use with relatively high strain (>10nm) materials and actuators. The resolution is better than 3nm, depending on the measurement time. The frequency range of this measurement is .01 Hz to 10 Hz.

Measurement fixtures exist for temperature measurements from -90°C to +185°C, low contact force and preload up to 500 pounds.
