NNIN at Penn State

Welcome to NNIN at Penn State!

Supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) offers a geographically dispersed network of user facilities to enable rapid advancements in science, engineering, and technology at the nanoscale. The 13 NNIN sites provide access to technological expertise and nanotechnology instrumentation that would otherwise be out of reach for many researchers in industry and academia.

Each NNIN site has specific areas of technical expertise. At the Penn State Nanofabrication site, our focus is on materials and chemical technologies at the molecular scale with unique strengths that include surface chemistry, self-assembly, and the fabrication and processing of complex oxide materials.

Academic and industry users can perform research on-site using facility equipment, training, and staff support. Or, for many tasks, remote usage is also available.

Please use the links to the left to learn more about the NNIN Nanofabrication facilities at Penn State.

Penn State Nanotechnology Research Initiative Industry Incentive Grant

The Penn State Materials Research Institute is offering an incentive grant program to improve access for PA-based small company users to the resources available at the Penn State Nanofabrication Laboratory.

Small companies that meet the guidelines and are new users to the Laboratory are eligible for grants of up to $10,000 as a one-to-one match to their instrument usage charges. All of the incentive funds must be expended by October 31, 2009.

These incentive grant funds can be applied to any fabrication-related research project at the Penn State Nanofabrication Laboratory. The incentive grant funds are intended for companies that require preliminary data to complete for future funding opportunities.

For complete application information please download the accompanying brochure.

The Nanofab Faculty User Committee began in November, 2008 and is scheduled to meet on a monthly basis.  The purpose of the committee is to provide input and oversight of the Nanofabrication Laboratory (NNIN at Penn State).

The most pressing issues for discussion currently include developing a federally compliant rate structure and capital equipment needs and purchases.

Faculty User Committee Members include:
Susan Trolier-McKinstry
Amanul Haque
Tony Huang
Nitin Samarth
Jian Xu
Christopher Muhlstein
Jun Zhu
Suzanne Mohney
Theresa Mayer
William Mansfield

Please feel free to contact any committee member with questions or suggestions regarding the facility.
