rigaku dmax-rapid microdiffractometer
Click here to review the operating instructions for this instrument.
- Manufacturer: Rigaku Americas Corporation
- Source: Copper or Molybdenum point focus
- Goniometer: scanning omega and phi (specimen rotation) axes; fixed 45˚Chi (specimen tilt)
- Detector: curved image plate
- Monochromator: graphite (primary beam side)
- Collimators: 0.03 – 0.8 mm pinhole
- Angular ranges: omega axis 0-150 degrees; 204 deg. 2-theta; 88-360 chi (depending on 2Ө; full Debye rings for 2Ө < 45˚)
- Applications and Accessories: The combination of sub-millimeter size collimators and very large area detector make this an excellent instrument for XRD experiments on very small volume specimens (< 1 mm3 ) or small areas of large specimens including mapping functions. The DMAX Rapid is also useful for time resolved experiments, thin film XRD, transmission geometry, single crystal XRD and more because of the fast data collection times and simultaneous detection of scattering in many directions afforded by the area detector. Users should be aware that angular divergence is large and scattered intensity is low compared to powder diffractometers with focusing optics. Therefore, the DMAX should not be used for normal powder diffraction when sufficient sample volume is available. Please see XRD instrumentation list for powder diffractometers available). The DMAX RAPID is also equipped with a forced air heating stage capable of 1000˚ C.
- Analyses: Data interpretation may include ICDD-PDF search match for phase identification, line profile analysis for size/strain broadening, pattern indexing, whole pattern refinements, texture analysis, residual stress analysis, single crystal indexing and more.
- Sample Preparation: Small volume powder samples are usually mounted in glass capillary tubes 0.3-1.00 mm diameter but many samples forms (including liquids, emulsions, films, etc.) can be accommodated. Consult the MCL staff for more information.
