TEM Instrumentation
MCL currently has three TEMs. We have two instruments from JEOL Ltd.: an EM-2010F and an EM-2010. We also have one instrument from Philips Electron Optics (Now part of FEI Company): an EM420T. Training of new users is done primarily on the FEI EM420T. Click on the instruments below to learn more about each one.
JEOL EM-2010F (FIELD EMISSION TEM/STEM)
(use for advanced investigations such as HRTEM, dark field and bright field STEM, EDS, STEM-EDS, STEM-EELS)
JEOL EM-2010 (LaB6 EMITTER)
(use for basic investigations such as bright field, dark field, and diffraction patterns; can be used for extended investigations such as HRTEM - with extensive practice)
PHILIPS (FEI) EM420T (TUNGSTEN EMITTER)
(use for basic investigations such as bright field, dark field, diffraction patterns, and EDS or extended investigations such as liquid nitrogen [LN2] stage and 900°C heating stage)
