Director's Message
Materials Day at Penn State
April 15, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Ballroom - Nittany Lion Inn
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this campus-wide event for the materials research community. All students, staff and faculty in materials are invited.
At this event, we will present MRI Student Awards (formerly Xerox Awards) for outstanding Ph.D., M.S., and B. S. Theses. We will also have a poster session where each materials research group at Penn State will have the opportunity to present a recent research highlight. And, we will distribute "Materials Researchers at Penn State", a brief summary of materials research activities for each group at Penn State. (We will contact you shortly about how you can contribute to this publication). More details will follow in future eMaterials issues and on the MRI website.
Regards,
Carlo Pantano

New Funding Opportunities
The NSF Directorate for Education recently announced a $160M program on "Math and Science Partnership (MSP)" to strengthen and reform preK-12 education. The MSP builds on the nation's dedication to educational reform through support of partnerships that unite the efforts of local school districts with science, mathematics, engineering and education faculties of colleges and universities. Letters of Intent are due March 15, 2002. For more information go to http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2002/nsf02061/nsf02061.html#TOC
