MRI Dropbox Service
Welcome to the MRI Dropbox Service - a fast and easy method to deliver large files to remote users. Anyone with a valid Penn State UserID and Password may use this service to upload files for remote retrieval, thereby circumventing limitations of certain e-mail systems. Once you have uploaded your file for distribution, each recipient will receive an e-mail message containing the recipient’s username (e-mail address), password and a special URL where the recipient will go to retrieve the file you uploaded.
Some basic instructions:
- You must login to this service using your Penn State UserID and Password (the link for the login screen is at the bottom of this page).
- After login, you will be taken to a menu screen where you can create new dropbox items and view the status of your dropbox items.
- Creating a dropbox item is easy - enter your name, your e-mail address, insert the recipient’s e-mail address (up to 25 recipients per dropbox item), and set the expiration time (from 1 to 14 days). You can also add a personalized message to the standard message.
- After creating the dropbox item, you will be taken to the file upload screen.
Some notes about this service:
- This service is provided "as is" for use by anyone with a valid Penn State account. Questions and comments can be sent to the MRI Webmaster.
- There is a 50 MB file size limitation - larger files will be rejected! Large files should either be split into multiple files or compressed using a compression utility such as WinZip or StuffIt
- This service will accept all file types
- For each dropbox item, you can name up to 25 recipients
- Each user is subjected to a quota of 50 potential download instances - for example, two dropbox items with 25 recipients each, or 5 dropbox items with 10 recipients each. Once dropbox items expire, your quota will be refreshed.
- File upload speed is dependant on network conditions and browser configuration. Typically, a 10 MB file will be uploaded in about a minute from within the University Park campus network.
- You must have Cookies and Javascript enabled to login to this system and upload files.
- By using this system, you agree to be bound by University policies. The terms of this service are subject to change.
This system is to be used for business-related purposes only.
As a result of recently reported unauthorized use of the MRI Dropbox service, MRI will henceforth be conducting random searches of names and content of files uploaded using the Dropbox service and/or the back-end database that contains information pertinent to each instance of a file upload or download. As stated above, this service is to be used only for business related purposes and in accordance with University policy. Usage deemed to be in violation of University policy will be referred to Penn State Security Operations and Services for further investigation.
