In May 1991, she joined the Materials Research Laboratory at Penn State University as staff assistant to several faculty, her main responsibility being administrative support for the Center for Dielectric Studies. In addition to basic administrative support, she has also coordinated semiannual meetings and special workshops for the Center, as well as three international meetings for the US-Japan Seminar on Dielectric and Piezoelectric Ceramics

Originally from New Jersey, Joanne has lived in Central Pennsylvania since 1975 and currently resides in State College. The mother of four beautiful daughters—Amy, Bonnie, Jessica, and Rebecca—and mother-in-law to Garrett, she is thrilled to be welcoming a new grandson (also Garrett!) to the family in June 2003. Other than hovering over her family, she also enjoys music, reading, movies, theater, sewing/quilting, hiking, gardening, traveling, food, and life in general
Responsibilities:
Joanne currently provides administrative support for four faculty, with her main responsibility being the Center for Dielectric Studies, a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center. She coordinates two Center meetings per year, as well as periodic workshops. Additional responsibilities for the Center include: compiling, editing, and distributing quarterly reports; maintaining/updating the Center website; monitoring budgets; updating promotional materials; maintaining member database; acting as initial contact for potential members; and setting up visits between members/potential members and faculty. For all her faculty, she composes and types correspondence; types and integrates graphics into reports, proposals, and presentations; assists visiting scientists with paperwork and housing; makes travel arrangements; answers phone; and orders supplies and equipment
