Welcome to the Particulate Materials Center (PMC)!

 

            The PMC is a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center, (NSF IUCRC) located at the Materials Research Institute at Penn State University.  Our mission is to support (industrial and government) member research and manufacturing interests by developing engineering and scientific foundations for the manufacture of advanced particulate materials.  We are known for our work in the classic granular powder area, however we are also moving our focus to nanoparticulate materials.  Our research projects cover all aspects of particle science from powder synthesis to powder processing and materials characterization.

 

            As you browse through the web site you will notice that our center has two basic components:  a research facility and the Particle Characterization Laboratory (PCL).  The research facility is dedicated to supporting our industry members' research goals through collaboration and mentoring with our industrial membership.  The PCL is a user facility for Penn State, our industrial members, and the science and engineering community at large.  The PCL is updated with state-of-the-art characterization and analysis instrumentation, much of which has been donated through PMC memberships.

 

            The ultimate goal of the PMC is to transfer knowledge and experience in particle science to the industrial community through collaborative research projects, technical seminars and workshops and conferences.  These efforts are outlined on our website.  Should you have any questions, please contact me directly at jadair@psu.edu.  We are here to serve the particle science community.
