What are ICAT Membership Benefits?
- Free Meeting Cost
The ICAT meeting is cost free to ICAT regular members (see Table 2). The maximum number of participants from each membership is two persons.
- Additional Information/ On-Site Programs
A list of the recent papers relating ceramic actuators and the copies of these papers are provided upon request. Also upon your request a tutorial program may be presented for a member company at your location.
- Consultation/Promotion of Research Contract
General consultation and preliminary experiment on ceramic actuators may be provided as the Membership benefit. Concerning the further research/ development, a research contract will be promoted.

- Visiting Scientist Program
Participating companies of the ICAT may delegate a staff participant to work in the laboratory in the ICAT area with a special discount of an additional research grant-in-aid. This program will probably be helpful for the member company to obtain the ICAT technology or to re-educate researchers.
- Reasonably Low Annual Fee
Participants are requested to provide a $7,500 Grant-In-Aid as an annual fee.
Further Benefits
Symposia-
The ICAT conducts three (or four) "Smart Actuator" meetings per year, including a tutorial course. The meeting costs are free for ICAT members. The maximum number of participants from each ICAT company membership is two. Non-members are invited as guests and may attend two meetings with the intent to join the Center.
Publications-
Copies of meeting talks and-or reprints are delivered to ICAT company representatives. A list of the recent papers related to ceramic actuators will be provided upon request. Some of this Website is only available to the Member companies.
Consultation-
General consultation, including preliminary experiments on ceramic actuators is provided. All participating companies shall have access to specialized measurement, testing, synthesis and analytical facilities at the Materials Research Institute on a cost-reimbursable basis. Concerning further research/development, a research contract will be promoted.
Recruiting-
Company members have access to the world's finest national and international graduate students in the field of electronic materials and devices.
Interaction-
Interaction with Penn State Faculty, Graduate Students, and Visiting Scholars-
Currently, the ICAT has 11 faculty members drawn from various departments. Research and development is aided by several graduate students and visiting scholars, with both academic and industrial backgrounds, who are investing in continuing education and pursuing technological advances in research.
