Research Interests:

 

  • Interfacial spectroscopy and chemistry
  • Polymers and coatings

 

Organic coatings, formulated from custom-synthesized polymers, are applied to metal or plastic substrates. Interfacial chemistry is then probed using spectroscopic and wetting analyses. Structure-property relationships of the adhesive interface are defined using microscopic, tensile adhesion, and corrosion analyses. The goals of Prof. Schuman’s work are to characterize adhesion and corrosion phenomena on metals and adhesion to plastics.
