Education:

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Northwestern University, 1997
  • B.S. in Materials Engineering with high distinction, University of Kentucky, 1992

Research Interests:

  • Interface and grain boundary phenomena
  • Electro-ceramics
  • Electron microscopy
  • Residual stresses
  • Nanomaterials
  • High temperature and advanced ceramics

Professor Dickey’s research group studies materials systems in which the macroscopic physical properties (mechanical, dielectric, thermal, etc.) are governed by the grain boundaries or internal interfaces in the material. The research involves using an array of analytical techniques, in particular electron microscopy and spectroscopy, to understand the structure and chemistry of internal interfaces.
