Facilities:
5. Dielectric Measurement Laboratory
Dielectric- and ferroelectric-based materials are commonly used in a wide array of devices and components. Multilayer capacitor structures are manufactured from high-dielectric constant materials, such as barium titanate. Low dielectric constant materials are desirable for packaging high-density integrated circuits. The dielectric property measurement facility provides state-of-the-art characterization for the development of new materials and components.
The dielectric property laboratory is a fully equipped facility with impedance bridges that operate between 10 Hz and 1 GHz. Higher frequency measurements are carried out in the microwave lab. Sample holders were designed for measurement over a wide temperature range (-195˚ to 500˚C). In addition, the dielectric properties can be measured up to DC bias voltages of 4000 V.
