Abstract: We have developed an optical bio/chemical sensing device using a novel periodic porous polymer nanostructure. The fabrication process for this photopolymer nanostructure is presented. The experimental results for the detection of various chemical/biological agents, such as DNA and protein, indicate excellent sensitivity and specificity. Moreover, a numerical code has been developed to simulate the nanostructure fabrication procedure and its bio/chemical detection process. The results from numerical simulation will help us further improve the nanostructure design and optimize the device performance. Since our detection scheme is sensitive, specific, robust and easy to make, it will be a promising technology for many defense/security applications.
